Sal, Cape Verde, 20 February 2024 – The Qatar Airways GKA Kite World Tour has started its 2024 season on the island of Sal, hosting the GKA Kite-Surf World Cup Cape Verde 2024. This event is one of the most prestigious and challenging in kite-surfing because offers amazing waves and windy conditions at the famous Ponta Preta beach.
From February 16 to 25, the world’s best kite-surfing athletes compete here, trying to win points and money. The total prize money is 20,000 euros and the competition has a four-star status. Kite-surfing champions will be looking to defend their titles on this iconic wave, considered one of the best in the world.

After three days of competition, we already know the winner in the men’s category. He is Airton Cozzolino, who defended his title from last year. Cozzolino defeated his friend and rival Mita Monteiro, who is also from Cape Verde, in the final. Both athletes performed amazingly and thrilled the local crowd cheering them on.

 

 

The results are not yet known in the women’s category, as the competition was postponed due to a lack of wind. The competition is expected to finish on Day 4 if conditions improve. Among the favorites is Moona Whyte of the USA, who earned a perfect 10 for her performance in the first round.

In addition to sporting events, competitors and spectators can also enjoy the beauty and culture of Cape Verde. Local residents are known for their cordiality and warm attitude towards visitors.
