Cabo Verde reports record number of tourists in 2023

Cape Verde experienced a record year for tourism in 2023, with more than one million guests staying in hotel establishments. This represents an increase of 20.9% compared to 2022. The total number of overnight stays also increased by 26.0% to 5,150,806.

“These figures are a great sign for Cape Verde and its tourism industry,” said Carlos Santos, Cape Verde’s Minister of Tourism. “They show that we are recovering well from the COVID-19 pandemic and that Cape Verde is an increasingly attractive destination for tourists from around the world.”

Most tourists in 2023 came from the United Kingdom, followed by Germany and the Netherlands. The average length of stay was 5 nights and the most visited islands were Sal and Boa Vista.

Cape Verde is an archipelago of 10 islands in the Atlantic Ocean, west of the African coast. The country is known for its beautiful beaches, warm weather and rich culture.

Tourism is a key sector of the local economy, accounting for around 25% of the country’s GDP. The Cape Verdean government is trying to diversify the tourism industry and attract more tourists from other parts of the world, including the Czech Republic.

With the increase in tourism and popularity of Cape Verde, the demand for freehold property is also increasing. Cape Verdean legislation allows 100% ownership of property, even for foreign buyers.
