The Blue Sharks’ 1-0 victory over Mauritania today to secure a place in the quarter-finals has earned Cape Verde a prize of US$1.3 million. For this edition of the African Nations Championship (CAN), the Confederation of African Football (CAF), the body responsible for organising the competition, has increased the amount awarded to the winner of the CAF Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire by 40%.
The CAN winner will receive a total of $7 million, while the runners-up will receive $4 million. The two semi-finalists will receive 2.5 million each, while the four quarter-finalists will receive 1.3 million each.
