Cape Verde is building digital islands.
A new technology park opens its doors
to Czech companies

Praia and Mindelo, two key cities of the Cape Verdean archipelago, are becoming the stage of a new era. In places where tourism and port activity have long dominated, something entirely different is now taking shape – TechPark CV, a technology park that embodies Cape Verde’s economic transformation and digital ambitions.

The official launch took place in two stages: on 5 May in Santiago and on 6 May in São Vicente. With an investment of 45 million euros, supported by the European Investment Bank and other international partners, the project has given rise to two technology campuses aimed at attracting innovative companies, startups, and research centres.

The first companies have already taken up residence – and this is just the beginning. The combined capacity of the two campuses exceeds 1,500 skilled positions, with a focus on software development, digital public administration, cybersecurity, and technology education.

Interest in the project extends far beyond Cape Verde. European expertise is welcomed – and here lies a clear opportunity for Czech companies, startups and universities. The Czech Republic has much to offer: in areas such as eGovernment, IT solutions, and secure communications, it enjoys a strong reputation. And Cape Verde is increasingly positioning itself as a gateway to West African markets – safe, stable and strategically linked to Europe.

Yet TechPark CV is about more than infrastructure. It is Cape Verde’s response to the challenges of economic and technological change – and to the risks of overreliance on tourism, which can threaten the resilience of an entire nation. The country is investing in its young generation, giving them a reason to stay – or to return. This is an ambition worth our attention.

The Czech-Cape Verdean Chamber of Commerce is following the development of TechPark CV with keen interest. Opportunities for partnership with Czech academia and businesses are real – and in today’s digital world, they make perfect sense.

Cape Verde is often spoken of as a sun-drenched holiday destination. But now is the time to also recognise it as a land of innovation – and a partner for the future.
