Cabo Verde Airports made a profit of almost 250 million escudos in five months of operation in 2023.

Cabo Verde Airports, which belongs to the Vinci group and manages the archipelago’s airports, made a profit of 249 million escudos (CZK 57 million) for the five months of operation in 2023, according to a report and accounts seen by Lusa today.

In its first report since the start of the concession to operate the country’s public airports in July 2023, Cabo Verde Airports, headed by Nicolas Dominique Notebaert, proposes to distribute the profits as follows: 94.3% to other reserves, 5% to the legal reserve and 0.7% as a transfer.

In the first five months of operation, the company generated a volume of 1.6 billion escudos, 85% of which came from the three international airports of Praia (21%), Sal (45%) and Boa Vista (19%).

The country has another international airport in São Vicente and three airports in São Nicolau, Maio and Fogo.

Until 31 December 2023, the concessionaire will receive revenues of 1.5 billion escudos, of which 87% will come from air traffic and 13% from non-air traffic.

In the first five months of operation, Cabo Verde Airports had costs of 1.089 billion escudos, the majority of which were operating costs (35%) and personnel costs (22%).

During the period under review, the company handled 1,210,023 passengers (departures and arrivals), 12% more than in the same period in 2022 and 3% less than in 2019, the period before the COVID-19 pandemic.

The total number of passengers at the country’s airports will reach more than 2.5 million (arrivals and departures) in 2023, according to the same report.

In terms of aircraft movements, there were 12,704 in five months, 9% more than in the same period last year and still 20% less than in the pre-pandemic period.

The new concessionaire ended the year with 327 employees.

Cabo Verde Airports began work on the country’s airports in the middle of the year, as part of an investment of 928 million euros over 40 years, the duration of the contract with the Vinci Group, according to the agreement signed on 18 July 2022.

The state will receive €80 million and the operator will have to pay a percentage of gross revenues annually, namely 2.5% in the first 20 years, rising to 7% in the last 10 years.
